Wisconsin Film Festival: Waking Sleeping Beauty
We attended the Wisconsin Film Festival in Madison this weekend and saw some great films:
Between 1984-1994, an amazing thing happened at Walt Disney Animations--they learned (or remembered) how to make great films again. The documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty tells how it happened, and we loved it. The film was directed by Don Hahn and produced by Peter Schneider. Hahn produced such films as Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King while Schneider was employed for 17 years at the Walt Disney Company where he held several titles including President of Animation and Chairman of the Studio. Peter was present at the festival to introduce the film and answer questions afterward.
Peter Schneider at the Wisconsin Film Festival
During the Q and A session, Peter Schneider spoke about a segment in the documentary where Roy Disney Jr. stood up for the animators during a time when they were not getting the credit they deserved. Schneider explained that this was probably a result of how Roy's father, Roy O. Disney never received much credit being in the shadow of his brother Walt. Listen to the mp3 audio clip.

Mad City Chickens PREMIERES at 2008 Wisconsin Film Festival! Read the Reviews
We were blown away by the turnout for the premiere of Mad City Chickens! It was an absolute pleasure to interact with the crowd before the show as our crew handed out MCC buttons, chocolate eggs, and boxes of peeps. The line of people included many of the chicken owners featured in the film as well as Madison’s own Mayor Dave Cieslewicz.
Read the reviews by Kristian Knutsen of the Isthmus Daily Page and those of Jane Burns & Katie Dean in the Capital Times.

Wisconsin State Journal puts MCC in top 5 films to see at WFF
Wisconsin State Journal writers Tom Alesia and Gayle Worland gave their recommendations on the films to see this year at the Wisconsin Film Festival, and Mad City Chickens was among the top five! Here's their comments:
Filmmakers Tashai Lovington and Robert Lughai use just about every film-student technique in the book for this film - including the theme song from "2001: A Space Odyssey." But the result, nonetheless, is a charming, lovable (and exhaustive) look at Madison's urban chicken subculture. A must for local yolk-els.

MCC attracting Press as WFF Premiere draws near
With just one week until the world premiere of Mad City Chickens at the Wisconsin Film Festival, the documentary is getting some attention from the press...
Isthmus newspaper writer Kristian Knutsen got an inside take on the film when he interviewed us for his Daily Page write up.
And earlier in the week, Tashai was interviewed by Gary Schuetz, the editor of the Mount Horeb Mail newspaper.

The Urban Chickens site continues to follow the film’s progress as well.
