Mad City Chickens Heads Back to British Columbia

Surrey, British Columbia is a municipality in the Greater Vancouver Regional District. The Village Surrey Movie Night Series is a partnership between the Village Surrey Transition Initiative, Surrey Libraries, and The Surrey Urban Farmers Market. They screen movies related to climate change, peak oil, food security, etc. The monthly movie night has a typical attendance of 50-60 and is followed by a community dialogue.

Our documentary, Mad City Chickens, will be playing June 19 at the Surrey City Centre Library, 10350 University Drive. Film starts at 6:00 pm. The event is open to the public and admission is free.



There is a group of people in Surrey preparing to go before City Council to present on the topic of backyard chickens. A representative from that group will leading dialogue at the movie night in the hopes of creating awareness and energy around city backyard chickens.

"Chickens" Heads Back to British Columbia

Mad City Chickens will play on January 31 in Revelstoke, British Columbia. The public screening is being sponsored by the North Columbia Environmental Society. The documentary begins at 7:00 pm at the Revelstoke Community Centre, 600 Campbell Ave.

Two More "Chickens" Screenings in British Columbia

British Columbia continues to be good to our Mad City Chickens documentary. The film returns to Canada
on October 25th in Cranbrook. The public screening begins at 7:30 pm at the College of the Rockies--Cranbrook. Then on the 26th, MCC can be seen in Kimberley, also at 7:30 pm. The showing is being held at Centre 64, 64 Deer Park Avenue.

Both presentations are sponsored by the Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook branch.

MCC Returns to Vancouver Tonight

Mad City Chickens has done well in the Pacific Northwest. For the third time, it will be screening at Langara College in Vancouver, BC.  Sponsored by the college and Village Vancouver, the screening is set for 7:00pm tonight at the Department of Continuing Studies, 100 West 49 Avenue.

MCC Screens Tomorrow in Haida Gwaii Film Festival

Mad City Chickens returns to British Columbia tomorrow, May 1st. It will screen at the Haida Gwaii Film Festival - 3:15 pm Haida Heritage Centre at the old Haida village site of Kaay Llnagaay (which translates to “Sea Lion Town”). The Centre showcases the unique living culture, art, and 12,000-year human history of the Haida, and we are honored to have our film screen in such a special place.

Mad City Chickens screens in British Columbia tonight

Salmon Arm, British Columbia is a small community located about 200 miles (320 kilometers) northeast of Vancouver. Canadians from coast to coast are letting it be known that they want their chickens within the city, and citizens in Salmon Arm are no different.

Chicken Flick hits Pender Island, BC tonight!

Mad City Chickens returns to British Columbia--this time to Pender Island. The 7:30 pm public screening is being sponsored by the Pender Island Film Group and will be shown at the Pender Island Community Hall, 4418 Bedwell Harbour Rd.

The Northwest has been very good to our film. On the map are a few of the cities it has played in.

Mad City Chickens screens tonight in Vancouver, BC

There's much interest in backyard chickens in Vancouver, British Columbia as the city council there has recently made it legal to keep hens. However, the bylaws have yet to be finalized so people are still waiting to get their birds.



It an effort to raise awareness about chickens and to insure that the city council staff author intelligent bylaws, Village Vancouver is sponsoring a public screening of MCC tonight at 7:30pm, Langara Collage, 100 W 49th Ave. Following the film will be a discussion led by local backyard chicken expert Heather Havens.

Mad City Chickens screens tonight in Castlegar, BC


It’s "chicken week" in Castlegar. On Wednesday May 6th, 7pm at the Community Forum, the City of Castlegar, British Columbia held a public meeting to hear resident’s input into the keeping of chickens in residential areas. The UrbanWorkbench (a blog dedicated to Sustainable Designs for Life) in conjunction with the Kootenay Food Strategy Society will be holding a public screening of Mad City Chickens tonight in an effort to raise awareness about the benefits of urban backyard chickens.

The screening takes place tonight, Thursday May 7th, at the Castlegar and District Health Centre at 6.30pm.

Castlegar, British Columbia to screen Mad City Chickens

The city of Castlegar, British Columbia has a potential vote coming up on the keeping of backyard chickens with a public meeting on the 4th of May. So to help raise awareness, chicken supporters in Castlegar will be sponsoring a public screening of Mad City Chickens in early May.

SOLD OUT! Mad City Chickens screens at 2009 Victoria Film Fest tonight!

The people of British Columbia are on the cutting edge of the sustainability movement, and that movement includes the return of the urban backyard chicken. Mad City Chickens plays its 2nd BC fest by screening tonight at the 2009 Victoria Film Festival. If you’re in the area, hop a ride on the ferry over to Victoria and take in the show! The screening is sold out, but Rush Line attendees will almost always find their way into the theater.

February 3rd at the Victoria Film Festival!

The Victoria Film Festival has announced its official 2009 line up! Mad City Chickens is scheduled to screen on February 3rd at 7:00pm. For those of you in the Victoria, BC area, tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through the VFF website.
