Mad City Chickens to Screen in Palm Springs

On Tuesday, January 28th, our documentary Mad City Chickens returns to California and will play at the Palm Springs Public Library. This program is presented in partnership with the City of Palm Springs Office of Sustainability. Watch the film and then join in the discussion about urban farming.

The film will begin at 6:30 p.m. in The Learning Center (TLC), Palm Springs Public Library, located at 300 S. Sunrise Way, on the corner of Baristo and Sunrise in Palm Springs.

Mad City Chickens to Screen in El Cerrito, California

A series of environmental-themed films are being hosted by the city of El Cerrito, California - Environmental Quality Committee. Mad City Chickens will be apart of this series and will screen on April 13th at 7pm in the El Cerrito City Hall Council Chambers.

Ventura, CA Premiere for Mad City Chickens.

Mad City Chickens will be screened in another one-day film festival sponsored by Hope Dance Films. This time it takes place on May 14th in Ventura, California. Film starts at 3:00 pm, Ventura Publc Library at the Topping Room.

"Chickens" Returns to SLO, California

This Sunday Mad City Chickens returns for a public screening in San Luis Obispo, California. The documentary will play at 4:15 pm on April 24th at the SLO Library, Osos and Palm. It is showing as part of a mini film festival being presented by Hope Dance Films.

MCC Returns to Sanata Barbara This Weekend

Making a return visit to Santa Barbara, California, Mad City Chickens will be screening this weekend, April 17th inside the tent at the Earth Day Weekend Public Screening presented by the Community Environmental Council of Santa Barbara - 3:30pm Alameda Park, Santa Barbara Street.

MCC screens in San Luis Obispo Thursday

San Luis Obispo, California tomorrow night! Outdoor screening presented by Hope Dance Films and Edible SLO - Begins at dusk, Sally Loo’s Wholesome Cafe, 1804 Osos Street. Christine Heinrichs (author of How to Raise Chickens and How to Raise Poultry) is in the film and will speak afterward.

We meet UrbanChickens.net founder

We'd exchanged emails over the last couple years, but it was a real pleasure to finally get to meet in person Thomas Kriese, the founder of urbanchickens.net. Thomas came to our recent San Francisco screening and joined in the lively chicken conversations afterward.

Santa Barbara screening a wonderful success!

The following is from chicken author Christine Heinrichs who did a Q&A after last night's Santa Barbara screening:

What a delight to be greeted by over 200 enthusiastic chicken lovers! They came to view Mad City Chickens, and then talk about chickens. Katherine Anderson, local farmer who raises chickens and turkeys, and Loren Luyendyk, a carpenter who builds chicken coops, also answered questions.

The Santa Barbara Library’s Faulkner Gallery is a beautiful room. People squeezed in, some sitting on the floor. They were all good humored and eager to get help with their chicken questions and willing to help others.

I’ve seen the movie several times now. It’s a Feel Good movie as well as documenting the backyard chicken situation and the legal particulars of Madison, Wisconsin. Watching it with an appreciative audience makes it all the more enjoyable.

Mad City Chickens screens tonight in Santa Barbara

Tonight's public screening will be a Santa Barbara premiere. Sponsored by Hope Dance Films, the show will begin at 7:00pm at the Faulkner Gallery, Santa Barbara Public Library, 40 E. Anapamu Street. Chicken author Christine Heinrichs, who's also in the film, is scheduled to do a Q&A after the screening.

Mad City Chickens screens in San Francisco

Over 75 people filled the quaint Delancy Street Theater tonight for our San Francisco premiere. Four California cities in four days. And a first the whole audience sat through the entire credits as well as the Q&A that followed.

Modified Chicken Coop in Davis

An unexpected, unedited shoot with Ed Clemens, one of our public screening hosts for the Mad City Chickens documentary in Davis, California. Ed shows how he modified a Dennis Harrison-Noonan coop design.

Davis Screening breaks record!

OMG! Until now, the largest crowd to have seen our film was an audience of 300 in Milwaukee last spring. But last night that record was broken when well over 350 people packed the Richard Brunelle Performing Arts Theater to see the Davis premiere! The event was sponsored by the Davis Food Co-op and Slow Food Yolo to benefit Davis Farm to School Connection. A big thank you to Jake & Ed Clemens for making it happen!

Sacramento screening draws over 100!

For the second night in a row, 100 people showed up to see the film, this time at the beautifully refurbished Guild Theater in Sacramento! The evening was sponsored by the Sacramento CLUCK group, an organization that is spearheading the movement to get hens legalized in their city.
